Mark Ronson has topped the singles charts for the first time with Uptown Funk – and said it’s “the coolest thing ever”.

The track, which features Bruno Mars, was released five weeks early after it was performed by Fleur East on ITV’s X Factor.

Now it has earned Mark his first number one in the Official Singles Chart. His previous chart best is number two, which he achieved with the singles Stop Me and Valerie – the latter a collaboration with his late friend Amy Winehouse.

“This is my first number one single as an artist or producer so I just want to thank everyone who bought, downloaded or DJ’d Uptown Funk this past week,” he said.

“It’s pretty much the coolest thing ever. I also have to thank Phil Smeeze, Jeff Bhasker and the boy wonder Bruno Mars without whom they’d be no jam.”

Mark is set to go head to head for the coveted Christmas number one spot with X Factor winner Ben Haenow’s single, a version of OneRepublic track Something I Need.

Uptown Funk pushed last week’s number one Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran to two, while Band Aid 30′s Do They Know It’s Christmas? jumped 12 places to three following its physical release this week.

Ed topped the album chart with X.
