Lorde has revealed that she often rifles through bins – but always gets recognised.
The Royals singer, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor, admitted to looking through other people’s trash in her native New Zealand.
She told The Daily Telegraph: “I’m boring because my favourite thing to do is trawl the inorganics.”
She explained: “It stays on the street for a few days and then it’s collected and put into a landfill somewhere. But people drive around and go through other people’s household rubbish.”
The 18-year-old singer claims that this has resulted in some great fashion finds, saying: “Honestly, I’ve gotten amazing furniture, shoes, hats, jackets.”
Fame hasn’t prevented her from her favourite hobby, which she last took part in three weeks ago, but she admitted to being “recognised every single time”: adding: “So embarrassing!”
Lorde has rejected some of the trappings which come with fame. She explained that her desire to stay off the red carpet was to keep herself “stress-free”.
She added: “I thought, ‘I don’t have to do this if I don’t want to.’ And it’s been so amazing and so stress-free not doing it.”
Lorde recently compiled the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, contributing a new single, Yellow Flicker Beat.
