PETER Andre brought some Aussie sunshine to George Street on Tuesday when he played to a sell -out crown at Oxford’s New Theatre.

The 100-minute set opened with an impressive laser and light display with Andre and his muscled backing dancers in ‘Tron’ style light-up suits.

There were many costume changes and the illuminated backdrops altered with every song.

Andre, who is in training to join The Magic Circle included some illusions in his show which added to the spectacle of the evening.

Peter spoke of the "deep and personal" lyrics of his new album Angels and Demons, referring to the ‘good guy / bad guy’ image he has in the national tabloid press. His romance with new girlfriend Emily proved inspiration for the song Fly Away.

Family is very important to him, it seems. One brother was bombarded by fans with camera phones in the stalls and older brother Chris joined him onstage to play the acoustic guitar.

They were accompanied by the wonderful harmonies of the Oxford Gospel Choir to sing Unconditional.

He dedicated the song to his stepson Harvey a "very, very wonderful boy" and to all the single parents in the audience.

The projected backdrop featured footage of Peter’s visit to Zanzibar to support the work of health improvement charity HIPZ.

Audience member Helen won a text lottery to get ‘up close and personal’ with Peter. The embarrassed lady was seated in a James Bond style projected bar while Andre sang How Deep is Your Love, a song penned by his friend, the late Robin Gibb, whom he had met in Thame.

Highlight of the night was Andre's hit Mysterious Girl – now 17 years old, which involved much audience participation and arm waving.

Peter almost got more audience input than desired when one eager female fan attempted to climb over the orchestra pit and onto the stage!

The music varied greatly from light pop to reggae - and even saw Peter taking his life in his hands and circling the stalls while singing Lennon’s Imagine.

He has a great voice which was wasted in the more bland moments. Bon Jovi’s You Give Love a Bad Name was the rock climax of the evening.

As the enthusiastic audience left I heard one fan complain that it was a fantastic night but they were disappointed not to have seen his six pack.
