How about this for a quirky – and extremely tuneful – evening out.

One of Oxford’s most talented singer-songwriters, tonight treats listeners to her latest songs, in the surroundings of a high-end auction house.

Jess Hall performs at the House & Garden Sale at Mallams Auctioneers in Abingdon.

The event will see her surrounded by array of antiques, paintings, furniture and works of art – all of which are for sale, if you have a couple of quid on you.

Devon-girl Jess, who now lives in Cowley, will perform a 45-minute set of alt-folk songs including songs from her stunning debut album Bookshelves. She will be joined by James Cunning from We Aeronauts.

Fan, friend and artist manager, Vez Hoper helped to arrange the gig. She said: “What makes this gig truly unique is the fact it will take place during the evening view of the House & Garden auction. This extensive auction will include over 700 unique lots of furniture, paintings, silver, works of art, garden statuary and garden effects.

“One of the stand out lots of the auction is a rare 1905 De Dion Bouton Type Z car which is sold with an extensive history file of receipts and paperwork, including the original purchase receipt from 1947 from a scrap yard in Cardiff (where bought for the price of £8) and is in at an estimate for £30,000 - £50,000!”

And the music? “The diverse range of items will provide a beautiful backdrop to Jess’s music and will provide a unique opportunity to combine both music and antiques."

Entry to the gig is free with the purchase of a £10 auction catalogue. The performance will take place from 7.15pm – 8pm, at Mallams, Dunmore Court, Wootton Rd, Abingdon OX13 6BH
