A CUTTING-edge art installation will be the venue for a showcase of the best of Oxford’s music scene this Saturday.

Indie-rockers The Scholars and Half Rabbits, Phil McMinn – former frontman of pop acts Fell City Girl and Winchell Riots – Deco Child, and singer-songwriter Richard Walters, will perform as part of an Oxfordshire Artweeks exhibition at the Old Boot Factory, in St Mary’s Road, East Oxford.

The event is being staged by Audioscope, which raises money for homeless charity Shelter, with the Launch Collaborative, which works to show art in unusual exhibition spaces.

The exhibition, titled The Natural Course of Things, features the work of three artists, including Sarah Mayhew, from East Oxford.

Miss Mayhew’s work is a stunning multi-media installation featuring film footage of the sea, projected onto overlapping fabric screens, set among nautical buoys.

The conceptial artist, who is also an acclaimed writer, photographer and events manager, said: "Audioscope is an annual Oxford-based mini-festival that raises money for the national homelessness charity Shelter, and has raised more than £23,000 for teh organisation since 2001.

"The Natural Course of Things is a series of installations which explore the psychology of space, and the decision-making process that we encounter in everyday life, consciously or otherwise.

"The Old Boot Factory was squatted before it became a pop-up community arts space, and Launch Collaborative, the artist and curatorial collective co-promoting The Natural Course of Things exhibition alongside Artweeks, has no fixed abode and curates shows in unusual spaces.

"so it made sense for us all to join forces and highlight the impact that the decisions we make on a daily basis can lead us in different directions.

"In short, we're all interested in exploring alternative uses for buildings and homes that are left empty for whatever reason.

"Tthere are a lot of vacant spaces in the city, and there are a lot of creative people that would love to make use of them.

"This Audioscope gig demonstrates how keen we are to explore ideas, and raise awareness of the fragility of our choices, and raise money for others whose lives haven’t gone in the direction that they might have hoped they would."

Heady stuff indeed.

The first band starts at 7pm.

Tickets are £5 from wegottickets.com.

Oxfordshire Artweeks’ sponsor, Zip Cars, will provide lifts home to some ticket holders.

The Natural Course of Things is on show until Sunday.
