As if you hadn’t noticed, the students are back in town.

They’ve nailed Freshers Week and will now be looking forward to seeing what Oxford’s got in store for them.

And if the bill for this show was anything to go by, they’ve got plenty to look forward to with Supercharged!

This monthly bass prescription has been an institution of Brighton’s nightlife for the past eight years and rated by Mixmag as one of the very best on the scene. In that time, the likes of DJ Hype, Katie B and Nero have played to packed crowds, so clearly they know how to put on a show.

Starting a monthly residency downstairs at the O2 Academy in Cowley Road, they bring a bit of Brighton beach to a mix of discerning bassheads and dance troopers – one hardy soul had come down from Loughborough for the night.

Touching down for the very first time here in Oxford, they brought us Drumsound & Bassline, playing exactly the kind of heavy-hitting drum and bass that people have come to expect from the maximally-inclined trio – with surreal images of warped cartoon characters and monsters on either side of the stage.

If you’re going to start a clubnight, it helps to get big names, and Plastician and Krafty Kuts are about as big as it gets.

Plastician is a stalwart of Rinse FM as well as one of the residents at the pioneering dubstep night FWD>>, and Krafty Kuts is a genuine legend on the breakbeat scene, as well as being everybody’s host this evening.

Bringing in big name acts and a crowd for the best high-adrenaline dance music, it looks very much like Supercharged! is more than capable of living up to its name.
