Oxford's kings of feelgood country-rock, The Epstein, have played some of the most interesting - and unlikely - venues around.

From The Jericho Tavern and the main room of the Zodiac, Olly wills and his band of merry pranksters have graced the likes of Glastonbury's acoustic stage, Cornbury Festival, the Truck Festival bar, a Wallingford private members club, a steamer on the Thames, and Europe's oldest concert venue - Oxford's Holywell Music Room.

Oh, and they've also charmed audiences across mainland Europe.. particularly Germany, where they are fast becoming a national obsession.

This Friday (Auguest 22) they rack up another funky venue - the stunning surrounds of the Jacqueline Du Pre Music Building, at the University of Oxford.

The band appear as part of an impressive bill also featuring our very Oxfordian-celtic folk-pop heroes Stornoway, and Manchester's The Travelling Band.

It's certainly the gig of the week, and one not to be missed.

We are reliably informed it may also be our last chance of having a stomp-along to the boys, before they head into teh studio to work on their follow-up second album.

What can I say? Be there!

*The Epstein play the Jacqueline Du Pre Music Building, St Hildas College, Oxford, on Friday August 22.
