Music news from down your way

  • After a victorious breakthrough performance at last year’s Truck Festival, young and hopeful indie pop boys Very Nice Harry, above, are sadly calling it a day with their last gig this evening. Of course, their final appearance in Oxford will be one to remember. Starting from 8pm at The Cellar, support comes from shouty alternative trio The Black Hats and Banbury electro-rockers The Scholars. The headliners have also thanked their supporters by releasing a free EP, It’s Been Emotional, on their Bandcamp page. Bid them farewell in person; it’s only £4 on the door.

  • Upstairs at the O2 Academy Oxford takes a departure from its usual rock and indie fare on Saturday by putting the emphasis for this month's gig on hip hop and urban music. Local beat maker and rapper Adian Coker headlines, just above the recently recharged Shaodow and his partner in grime, Zuby. Also on the bill are genre-transcending dub/electronica duo Death of Hi Fi, Bicester-based MC Yungstar and a DJ set from community-based independent record label, BG Records. Tickets cost £7 in advance from ticketweb.co.uk

The pupils of Didcot Girls School will present an evening of Broadway and West End hits at their sing-a-long showtune extravaganza, Girls on Tour, next Wednesday at the Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot. For the ticket price of £7, enjoy a heart-warming evening of musical favourites, as well as a few lesser-known tunes that are bound to become your new favourites. Book online at cornerstonearts.org or call 01235 515144.
