A law firm has partnered with a humanitarian charity to arrange a sponsored walk to raise money for Sri Lanka.

Oxford based law firm Roelens Solicitors has teamed up with the Association of Professional Sri Lankans in the UK (APSL UK) to raise funds to support vulnerable people in Sri Lanka during severe hyperinflation.

There are three variations of the walk – one moderately challenging and the other two easy - all of which begin at 10am on Sunday, September 25 at Oxford’s Farmoor Reservoir.

The Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor James Fry and the Sri Lankan High Commissioner, Her Excellency Saroja Sirisena, will be attending the event.

The endeavour is also supported by Hiran Abeysekara, the award-winning actor from The Life of Pi.

ASPL UK has a trusted network of contacts in Sri Lanka to ensure the food and medicine aid – which funds from the walk will go towards – reaches those most in need.

An unprecedented financial crisis in Sri Lanka has resulted in people’s inability to pay for basic foods, medicines, fertilisers, fuel and cooking gas.

Hyperinflation - with food prices 90 per cent higher than last year, a 125 per cent hike in electricity costs and fuel costs increasing by 143 per cent higher – is leading to sever hardship for ordinary people.
