The Oxford branch of stricken greetings card retailer Birthdays will close on Friday after administrators failed to find a buyer.

The outlet in the Westgate Centre is among 17 Birthdays and Clinton Cards stores nationally to shut their doors in the latest round of closures. Five jobs will be lost.

Clinton Cards and its subsidiary Birthdays went into administration in May. Stores in Witney, Bicester and Thame were among 397 saved when they were bought by Lakeshore Lending, a subsidiary of the American Greetings Corporation.

Branches in Banbury and Henley closed last month with the loss of 10 jobs as they were among the 330 stores not included in the sale to Lakeshore.

No further branches remain up for sale in the county.
