Bosses at pub operator Punch Taverns say they have not identified which of their 70 Oxfordshire sites could be offloaded as part of a major restructuring exercise.

The debt-laden company wants to dispose of more than 2,000 sites across the UK and will be split in two with the managed business behind brands such as Fayre & Square and Flaming Grill run as a separate company.

The remaining tenanted division has just under 6,000 pubs but 550 will switch to the managed business as Punch looks to create a core estate of 3,000 "high-quality" pubs over the next three to five years.

Spokesman Jo Navin said: “We believe a demerger and a move to two focused divisions in our leased business will provide a stronger future for our pubs.”

Punch pubs in the county include the Chester Arms on Chester Street, Oxford, The New Inn, Witney and the Royal Sun, Begbroke.
