Tim Stevenson, the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, is to be appointed as chairman of chemical company Johnson Matthey.
Mr Stevenson, 62, will succeed Sir John Banham. He will join as chiarman designate from March 29 and will take up his position officially in July following the company’s annual general meeting.
A qualified barrister, Mr Stevenson is also chairman of The Morgan Crucible Company and was Chairman of Travis Perkins from November 2001 to May 2010 as well as holding senior management positions at Burmah Castrol where he was chief executive from 1998 to 2000.
Sir John Banham said: "Tim has had a most distinguished career and is a very experienced chairman who will ensure the company continues its successful record of delivering value to shareholders."
