Bosses at climate and energy consultancy AEA Technology have delivered an upbeat assessment of the company's fortunes.

The Harwell-based firm said trading had remained strong to the end of the financial year on March 31 and predicted its pre-tax profits would be "slightly ahead of market expectations" while debt would be lower than expected.

The Group has continued to retain and develop projects as well as win new work from the public sector uncluding the recently announced five-year extension to Defra's air quality monitoring programme, worth £5m.

Orders for the coming year are described as "healthy" with significant opportunities in the United States, Europe and China.

AEA's preliminary results, will be announced in mid-June.
