UK sales of the Cowley-built Mini took a healthy leap last month, latest official figures have revealed.

Statistics produced by the Society of Motor manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show 3,147 cars were sold in July, a rise of eight per cent on the 2,914 that left forecourts in the same month last year.

For the year to date, 28,467 cars have been sold, 3.41 per cent more than for the same period in 2012.

Nationally, the SMMT reported strong performance across the private, fleet and business market sectors prompting the 17th successive monthly sales rise in July, growing 12.7 per cent to 162,228 units.
