A HOUSEBUILDING company has announced it is creating 10 new apprenticeships in regions covering Oxfordshire.

As part of a national recruitment drive, Persimmon Homes said it was looking for on-site apprentices in brick-laying and joinery.

Managing director Ian Menham said the company wanted applicants looking for their first job in the construction industry.

He added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to join a thriving business.

“Many of our current directors started their careers at 16 and our current chief executive, Jeff Fairburn, started on a Youth Training Scheme.

“One of these young people may be our future chief executive.”

Persimmon chief executive Jeff Fairburn said: “My own experience of starting work at 17 has been a positive one.”

Persimmon completed 5,022 new homes in the first six months of 2013, a seven per cent increase on the first half of 2012.

It currently has developments in Cumnor and The Paddocks Enstone, where it trades under the Charles Church brand.
