WANTAGE Town Football Club has won the Football Association’s highest community standard mark for a fifth year in a row.

It is one of only 16 clubs in Oxfordshire to receive the award, recognising the club as safe, sustainable and delivering quality coaching.

Wantage Town Juniors chairman Jeremy Moor said: “We are absolutely delighted to have achieved the most advanced FA Charter Standard Community Club.

“It is great recognition of the hard work that parents, coaches and the children have put in to the club, and highlights the great support we receive from local schools, partner companies, and other clubs.

“We want to push on and keep this award year after year and this means we continue to need the help and support of the local community – and we always need new players.”

The Community Charter Standard is the highest of three levels the FA awards, above FA Charter Standard Club and FA Charter Standard Development Club.

Berkshire and Buckinghamshire FA spokeswoman Lisa Welling said the club should be proud of the achievement.

She said: “We would like to congratulate Wantage Town on this award, it is an extremely well-run club.

“The FA Charter Standard programme is a kitemark, which recognises and rewards high quality levels of provision in club and league football. The kitemark is awarded to clubs and leagues that are well-run, sustainable, which place child protection, quality coaching and safety as paramount.”
