A SHIVER-INDUCING array of free art exhibits and installations, dance, music and talks exploring the science of hope and fear will fill the Ashmolean Museum tonight.

The ‘FrightFriday’ event will see the museum team up with the Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities for a night of chills, thrills and thought-provoking entertainment.

Highlights include Professor Simon Palfrey’s conclusion to Edmund Spenser’s unfinished epic poem The Faerie Queene, a large-scale erupting model volcano and Ran Kan Kan, a 20-piece Cuban big band to lift the spirits.

Dr Sarah Doherty, programmer for LiveFriday at the Ashmolean, said: “The themes of hope and fear have permeated art and culture throughout history and this is reflected across the Ashmolean’s collections.”

FrightFriday runs from 7pm to 10.30pm at the museum in Beaumont Street.
