OXFORDSHIRE’S firefighters were not called to any major incidents during four strikes held over the weekend.
Fire Brigades Union members are in a dispute with the Government over pay and conditions.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service provided cover with non-striking staff and on-call volunteers so 17 fire engines were available. Crews were called to three incidents in the first strike, from 11pm on Friday to 1am on Saturday.
They were a false alarm at Wantage Leisure Centre, a car fire in Wykham Lane, Broughton, and a collision on the A34 between Hinksey and Botley.
A silver Peugeot went through the central reservation into the southbound carriageway which had to be closed.
A woman was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital and police said her injuries were not life threatening.
Firefighters were also called to three incidents during the second strike from 11am to 1pm on Saturday. They were a false alarm at sheltered housing in Oxford, a traffic collision on the A4183 in Sunningwell and a person trapped in a lift in Bicester’s Sainsbury’s.
During the third strike – from 11pm on Saturday to 1am yesterday – crews were called to a false fire alarm in Thame.
A fourth strike was due to be held from 5pm to 7pm last night with another from 6am to 8pm this morning.
