JEROME Sinclair was delighted Marcus Browne heeded his pre-match instructions after the pair combined to score for Oxford United in the win against Wycombe Wanderers.

The striker bagged his third goal of the loan spell from Watford with a real striker’s finish, popping up in the six-yard box to equalise in the first half.

Browne had delivered the ball from the right flank to just the spot Sinclair was hoping.

He said: “That’s the kind of goal the manager wants me to get more of – the scruffy ones.

“I was buzzing to get on the end of it.

“I said to Marcus at the start of the game ‘if you beat that man in between the keeper and that first man, that’s where I’m going to be, so flash the ball across’.

“I was lucky that when he did beat his man he knew exactly where to put it and I was there to get on the end of it.”

It was another reminder for Sinclair of what can happen when he stays in the danger zone.

The 22-year-old admits it is difficult for him to avoid getting drawn out of the box to join in the build-up play.

He said: “My job’s to put the ball in the back of the net and I need to be in those areas so that when that ball does come in, I’m there.

“Sometimes you want to go and get the ball and show what you can do.

“So for me it’s about keeping the balance and making sure I’m in the right position for the team.”
