ROSS Jenkins says there is more to come from his Oxford City side after they reached the Vanarama National League South play-off final.

Goals from Zac McEachran and Alfie Potter handed the Hoops a 2-0 win at home to Worthing in the semi-final yesterday afternoon, setting up another huge clash at Court Place Farm this weekend.

If Jenkins’ side get past St Albans City, then their reward will be a place in the National League.

Speaking after the victory against Worthing, former Watford midfielder Jenkins said: “I don’t think semi-finals are ever pretty, we went to Dorking [Wanderers] last year and I don’t think it was a pretty game.

“We’ve learnt from those mistakes or lack of experience from last year, we’ve built on it and it feels good.

“The boys put in a big shift today with the heat and there’s no surprise the boys came down with cramp.

“I thought we came through the game quite strongly at the end and Worthing ran out of ideas.

“That’s a credit to the players to keep going and keep pushing, hold their shape and work their shape.

“I thought the fans were brilliant and they gave us that twelfth man that we needed in the final moments.”

On the week ahead, Jenkins said: “The physio’s going to be busy, we’ve got a few cramps in there.

“The boys are professional, we’ve looked after ourselves all season.

“It’s a difficult challenge in non-league sometimes, balancing football life with work life and family life.

“It’s important we rest up now, debrief quickly and move on.”

Asked how guiding City to the play-off final compares to the successes of his playing career, Jenkins responded: “It doesn’t feel any different because we haven’t done anything, we’ve just won a game of football.

“As it stands, there’s no different feeling. We’ve all got different jobs and today we’ve done it.

“It’s a difficult one because we know we’ve got a big game coming up so we can’t get too excited.

“The boys won’t, they’re all level-headed.

“We’ve got loads to work on, we’re not the finished article.

“The boys know that and as harsh as it sounds, there’s times in the game where we needed to be better.

“We’ll analyse it quickly and try to put it right in training.

“The boys needs to keep their feet on the ground because we’ve got plenty more to learn.”

On the threat set to be posed by St Albans, who finished sixth, three place and three points behind the Hoops, Jenkins said: “They’re a really good team on the ball, they’ve got threats in possession.

“They’re not a team that we can take lightly for sure, they’re in the position for a reason and that’s because they’re a good team.

“They’ve got good strength and good balance, and good depth.

“The most important thing is that we rest and recover, and focus on ourselves for the next few days and then we’ll address St Albans later in the week.”
