ANDY Whing is not letting three defeats on the trot get to his Banbury United side as they look to get back into the play-off places.

The Puritans followed up the Emirates FA Cup exit at the hands of Bracknell Town with defeats at Spennymoor Town and King’s Lynn Town.

Whing though is confident his team can return to winning ways, having been buoyed by recent performances.

The Puritans manager is taking confidence from the midweek defeat at Vanarama National League North leaders King’s Lynn.

He said: “I’ve watched the King’s Lynn match back again, and I think we were the better team and controlled the game.

“To see us go there and play with the bravery we did, set pieces undermined us at the end.

“It’s just one of them moments where the decisions have gone against us, but performances have been outstanding.”

Banbury, eighth in National League North, welcome Kidderminster Harriers this weekend, with the Worcestershire side level on points with the Puritans.

Both sides have the same goal difference but with Banbury having scored more goals, they sit one place above the Harriers.

Whing said: “It’s another full-time team, they’ve got a top manager and assistant, I’ve got a lot of respect for them.

“We need to get on top of any nerves they might have, especially as we’re at home.

“I know we’ve lost three on the bounce but we’re full of confidence because our performances have been really good.”

Slavi Spasov is halfway through a one-month loan with the Puritans, from Oxford United, and Whing is keen to keep the 20-year-old striker at Banbury.

“Slavi is getting better and better, he’s not had consistent games of football, so he’s getting a lot fitter,” said Whing.

“I thought him and Jack Stevens were amazing on Tuesday night.

“His performances have been getting better and he’s looking sharper, him and Jack are going to be so important for us.

“One hundred per cent we’d like to keep him as long as we can, he’s a really good player.”

Oxford City travel to Farnborough at the weekend, off the back of their 2-1 win at home to Taunton Town in National League South.

Speaking after Tuesday night’s win, Hoops head coach Ross Jenkins said: “We’ve got to enjoy these moments, that’s why we play football, it’s to enjoy the wins and not get too low on the lows.

“We’ve got another game coming up so we’ve got to rest properly, we’ve got to train properly, ready for a real tough game.”
