JAMES Henry is showing no signs of slowing down as he stands by for an Oxford United milestone.

The midfielder could make his 200th appearance for the club in today’s clash with Morecambe at the Kassam Stadium (3pm).

Henry turned 32 in June, but has only missed one Sky Bet League One game this season and is United’s top-scorer with six goals.

It has taken his overall tally to 53, putting him just two behind tenth-placed Matt Murphy in the club’s all-time list.

As he prepares to bring up a double century of appearances, Henry insists he still has much more to give.

“It’s a really nice milestone, hopefully I can keep going and make it to a lot more,” he said.

“I’ve got a decent goal return and I don’t want to stop at that.

“I don’t see why I can’t keep going and score another 30, 40 or 50 for the club.

“I still feel like I can perform to a high level for the foreseeable.”

Henry’s goal return is better than one in four for United, but it did not begin that way.

The former Wolves man found the net just three times in his first 33 games after being signed by Pep Clotet in July 2017, although he went on to finish joint top-scorer with 11 that season.

He topped the charts again the following campaign with 15 and has chipped in with goals throughout his time at the club, while adding 20 assists since the start of 2019/20.

Henry’s contract expires next summer but there is still one big target he wants to achieve, having been part of two unsuccessful play-off campaigns with United.

He said: “The club has brought out the best in my football.

“I’ve performed consistently throughout those four years, I had a little bit of a dodgy start but I enjoy playing here, enjoy the atmosphere around the place and it’s worked for me.

“The only thing missing is the success of promotion.

“Hopefully either this year or next that’s something I get to achieve.”
