Among five properties currently empty in Bicester town centre is a former bank which has the possibility of being turned into a variety of things.

The former HSBS bank at 1 Sheep Street closed its doors for the final time on Tuesday, June 20.

The closure of the HSBC in Bicester came amid the closure of hundreds of UK bank branches with Barclays, Halifax, Natwest, Lloyds and Santander also shutting sites this year.

The sale listing says there is “scope for an additional main entrance” and the opportunity for “plenty of external seating” subject to planning permission.

Also up on the market is the former town centre shop Signature Flowers after the business left its premises on Saturday, December 23.

Town councillor for Bicester North Rachel Mallows told this newspaper that the business relocated from 1-3 Market Square with concerns over the possibility of a pedestrianised market square meaning they would not be able to receive goods 24-hours a day.

Last February 2023, it was announced that £4.25m of funds would be used to transform Bicester Market Square into a "multi-use community hub" as part of a town centre regeneration project.

A unit at an industrial estate on Wedgewood Road to the east of the town centre is also available.

The site has a trade counter with a self-contained yard and a warehouse with gates measuring 18m by 10m.

It boasts solar panels that produces low electricity charge.

A number of offices in a building dating back to 1870s are also up for let on London Road.

St Edburgs Hall is described as a “light and airy open space” with two meeting room pods and a small office available.

A spokesperson for Wild Property Consultancy said: “Bicester is at the forefront of the UK’s growth plan with excellent infrastructure and land supply - enabling rapid expansion.

“The current population is 32,000 persons which by 2031 is set to increase to 50,000 according to Cherwell District council.

"The town has easy access to both Junction 9 and 10 of the M40 as well as to the A43 and A34.

“Bicester has two mainline railway stations providing a fast and reliable service via Chiltern Rail to London, Birmingham and Oxford.

“Bicester is also one of the stops on the route of East West Rail, which will link Oxford."
