A community-owned pub near Oxford has launched a new menu which features a meal deal every week.

The Abingdon Arms in Beckley is owned by the Beckley and Area Community Benefit Society and run by Vicky Macpherson and her team.

They are launching a new menu for 2024 that focuses on locally sourced, freshly-made pub classics.

The new menu includes pub classics like burgers as well as fish and chips plus two weekly specials.

There will be six starters, six mains and three or four puddings to choose from plus a deal of the week for £12.50.

The weekly deal will be home-cooked food such as sausage and mash with onion gravy or mushroom and truffle risotto with spinach and parmesan.

Ms Macpherson said: “We hope our new menu will be a perfect balance for the community, local residents and customers from further away.

"We want to deliver a great experience for all and offer an amazing meal at an affordable price.”

The a la carte menu is on offer Thursday to Sunday.

Prices range from £7.50 for a starter and main courses are all under £20.

There will always be three or four meat-free options on the menu.

John Walsh, chairman of Beckley Area Community Benefit Society, said: “The community is very pleased to see The Abingdon Arms launch a new menu and beers for 2024.

"We surveyed the local community in 2023 and the new menu takes into consideration a lot of local feedback. We hope the pub continues to be a thriving focal point for the surrounding villages and for visitors from further afield.”

The Beckley Area Community Benefit Society raised more than £500,000 to buy the pub from Breakspear’s in October 2016 and it is now owned by more than 318 members.

The society organises the More than a Pub programme with walks and talks once a month as well as a pub quiz on the first Wednesday of the month.

In 2018, The Abingdon Arms was named Community Pub of the Year.
