A husband and wife from Bicester will be appearing on an ITV garden show with Alan Titchmarsh this evening.

Alan and Adam Robinson said they were “blown away” when the popular gardener and broadcaster turned up at their house to film for Love Your Garden earlier this year.

The show sees families having their gardens renovated, and tonight’s episode, airing at 8pm on ITV1, will feature the couple’s home on the Kingsmere Estate.

Mrs Robinson said: “We can’t wait to see what they have done ‘behind the scenes’. We are all so excited and all our friends and family are desperate to see it as well.

“It’s been a long time coming, over a year-and-a-half since the filming took place, so it will be strange seeing it on TV. But well worth the wait.”

The couple were first approached by a TV researcher in late 2021 – after having only been living in Bicester for 18 months - and told they had been nominated for a programme.

Speaking on their new garden, Mrs Robinson, a sign language communication worker at a primary school in Oxford, said: “We love the garden and have hosted many parties and spent many evenings together as a family enjoying it.

“It has become a truly rewarding pastime looking after and maintaining the space.

“Our episode tonight is the first episode back after a few months’ break in the series. We have been watching this series and we’ve always enjoyed watching the previous ones.”

Mr Robinson runs a local inclusivity football team at Bure Park, and also engages in fundraising activities for the children.

Due to the fact that the couple’s nomination to take part in the show was sent in anonymously, Mrs Robinson believes it had something to do with the football team.

She recalls being told by the production team that her and her husband’s number had been given through Bure Park, and so surmised it must have been through the football team.

The couple went for a few months before hearing anything after their initial nomination, and were contacted again with the news that they were down to the last 20 people being considered for the show.

They were told a producer wanted to come and talk to them, only to receive a knock at the door and not only be met by the production team, but Alan Titchmarsh too.

The couple recalled being “gobsmacked” and “completely taken aback.”

They then did a few pieces to camera with the production team and took photos with Mr Titchmarsh in their garden.
