Boris Johnson wants to build a swimming pool in his new £3.8million Oxfordshire mansion.
The former Prime Minister, 59, has applied for planning permission for the lavish works in the grounds of Brightwell Manor, the nine-bedroom mansion in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell where he moved with wife Carrie, 35, in May.
The 400-year-old property is set in nearly five acres, which already include its own walled garden, tennis court, and three-sided moat.

An application has been made via Clearwater Pools to South Oxfordshire District Council for the development of an 11m x 4m swimming pool, surrounded by a tiled area.
It is currently under consultation with a target decision date of August 14.
But Brightwell Parish Council has submitted a ‘holding objection’ to the plans and ‘refer the matter for an archaeological survey.’

Due to the ‘considerable archaeological interest’, County Archaeological Services recommend that Mr Johnson should be required to monitor for important archaeological finds if planning permission is granted.
Since he resigned as Prime Minister in June 2022, Mr Johnson has earned nearly £5million. In February he received a £2.5million advance from the Harry Walker speaking agency, and he has been handed a £510,000 advance for his memoirs,
He is also set to earn £1million over two years for his new role as a newspaper columnist for the Daily Mail.
Some have raised concerns since he moved to the village, complaining about the appearance of armed security guards and drones.
