A great-grandmother from Faringdon said she is ‘terrified’ after the electricity company cut-off her power supply.

Barbara Moore, aged 69, lives alone and has a registered disability.

Last week her outdoor electricity meter, that operates using a key, stopped working.

She explained that her electricity company, E Gas and Electricity, said she must either install a new indoor meter or pay £180 to keep the old one running.

According to Ms Moore, E Gas and Electricity told her that the earliest date they could install a new meter is July 18.

Ms Moore said: “I’m just terrified that I am going to run out of electricity.

“It takes my daughter a long time to get here to help me. Her house is three hours away.

"I have never had this trouble in my life before.

"How many old age pensioners are they going to do this to?”

The 69-year-old has nine great-grandchildren and 22 grandchildren.

She said: “Although I have electricity at the moment, I have no idea of knowing when it is going to run out.

“I am not going to pay the £180 to keep my outside meter, even though I would have preferred to.

“I’ve got much better things to do with it!

“The electricity company are essentially forcing us onto the indoor meters.”

E Gas and Electricity has been approached for comment but has so far failed to provide a response.
