FIREFIGHTERS were called to a smoke-logged flat in Kennington after food was burnt.

The incident happened just before 5pm yesterday evening (February 01) and crews from Rewley Road Fire Station and Slade Park Fire Station attended the residential flat.

On arrival crews found one ground floor flat which was smoke logged from burnt cooking.

Incident commander Dave Horle said: “The swift actions from the on-site manager extinguishing a small fire within a pan, prevented this incident escalating.

“We would like to remind everyone of the importance of working smoke alarms which alerted residents and staff”.

With assistance from South Central Ambulance Service treating the occupier for smoke inhalation they were given the all clear without the need of hospital admission. Crews handed the incident over to management of the building.
