Parents and worried members of the community took a paper wind farm to Oxford city centre today, demanding a U-turn on the Government’s new energy strategy.

Climate activist group Parents For Future Oxford gathered in front of the Oxfordshire County Council offices at midday today (Friday, September 23), before joining the Oxford Youth Strike in Bonn Square to support their action.

A spokesperson for Parents for Future said: “Despite the Government’s disregard of clean, homegrown energy, onshore wind farms cropped up across the county today as part of a Parents for Future campaign to show our MPs and local communities that we have the power in our hands.”

Dismayed by the Government’s response to the energy crisis – fracking and an expansion of new oil and gas fields – the spokesperson added: “The parents made it clear that the answer to the energy and cost of living crisis goes hand in hand with the answer to the climate crisis.

“That is clean, renewable energy, which is now nine times cheaper than UK gas.”

A parent from the activist group, Rowan Ryrie, commented: “Parents in Oxford would much rather have clean, homegrown wind energy than fracking, which will continue to harm our children’s health and environment but won’t lower our bills or help keep us warm this winter.”

The group wants cheap renewable energy, freedom from oil and gas, fair taxing of oil and gas giants, swift help to upgrade homes and for every MP with personal or family investments in oil, gas or coal to step down.
