A WOMAN taken to hospital after a two-car smash on the A40 remains at the John Radcliffe with serious injuries, police said.

A 21-year-old man, the driver of the BMW that collided with the injured woman’s Peugeot, has been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Gloucestershire Constabulary was called to the scene of the crash on the A40 near Northleach at 8.40am on Saturday.

Two cars, a blue Peugeot and a silver BMW, were involved in the collision.

The occupants of the Peugeot, a man, woman and child, were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with suspected serious injuries. The woman remains in hospital.

The driver of the BMW was arrested at the scene then taken to Gloucester Royal Hospital for assessment. He has since been released from custody under police investigation.

Gloucestershire police appealed for anyone with information about the collision to contact them on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, by calling 0800 555 111.
