IT HAS been a busy week for planning developments across the city.

Earlier this week a planning application to redevelop Clive Booth Student Village, which would see 500 more students housed in the accommodation, was rejected by Oxford City Council's planning committee.

During the same meeting an application for 80 new homes in Marston was given the go-ahead.

The development will feature 13 one-bedroom apartments and 28 two-bedroom, 35 three-bedroom and four four-bedroom houses.

The project will be built to the west of Mill Lane.

The first steps towards a potential 3,000 home development was also given the green light by the council.

During the city council's cabinet meeting, councillors approved officers to start drawing up plans for the site.

The site, dubbed ‘South Oxfordshire Science Village’, would see new homes, new schools, a new park and ride as well as an extension to Oxford Science Park.

Other notable planning application submitted this week include:

  • A bingo hall is to close after becoming 'unviable' - therefore its owners want to change the use of the site.

A planning application has been submitted to change the use of the Bingo Hall at the Ozone Leisure Park, near the Kassam Stadium on Grenoble Road.

Buzz Bingo went bust last year following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new application asks to change the use of the site from a bingo hall to general leisure use.

In the covering letter to the application it is stressed that the owners would rather the use of the premises be widened to allow for flexibility of use and continuity of occupation.

It added that the unit is currently not employing anyone and having a more flexible use of the site would lead to a boost in employment.

  • A storage unit is looking to become more environmentally-friendly.

  • A planning application to widen a carriageway and add a footpath along the side of the road.

If plans go ahead, the A4130 between Steventon Lights/High Street junction and Milton Interchange would be widened.

It also looks to improve the adjacent junctions.

Provision of a footpath and a cyclepath would also be installed alongside the road.
