The Government announced on Sunday that it will not be going ahead with plans for vaccine passports to gain access to nightclubs and other crowded venues.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said the plan had been scrapped.

The roll-out would have meant people who want to go to nightclubs and large events would have to show proof of being fully vaccinated to gain entry.

We asked our readers whether they think it is time to get tougher on people who refuse the Covid vaccination and here's what you said:

EMMA MATHIESON: "Each to there own. You can't make people get the vaccine."

AMIE CHANDLER: "We have human rights. Can’t force anybody to do anything they don’t want to do."

ANDREW SMITH: "No - if folk don’t want it, that should be the end of it."

CRAIG BUCKINGHAM: "Freedom to choose what I put in my body is my right - nobody else’s. I’m not vaccinated and I won’t be getting it done.

"But I certainly would not push my beliefs on others who have been."

Vaccine passports are scrapped - Oxford Mail readers have their say

KAYLEIGH GRIFFITHS: "I’ve got both, but under no circumstances should another human be forced to have something they don’t want.

"They have their concerns, that’s fine. If I’m right, some of them are waiting to have it after it’s been tested for a while etc.

"It’s there own choice. Let them make it."

DEB MUNGER: "It depends on the reasoning. Some can't for health reasons, others have valid reasons not to.

"It's such a situational decision that I feel we can't come down on anyone for not having it. It has become a debate topic, like religion, politics etc."

STEPHANIE WRIGHT: "Trying to push it on them isn’t working so far so how about trying to find out what their concern is and seeing if that can be addressed?

"Seems like people are just digging their heels in when they’re being pushed to do it with regulations."

AMANDA ATTWOOD: "I’m double vaccinated, but absolutely not. The medical code of conduct states no coercion and if it actually stops you getting it or spreading I could see some reason, but it doesn’t.

"Pro-choice. Anti medical apartheid."

MARCA LEON BYFIELD: "No and I’m double jabbed. No one should be forced to do something against their own will."

BECKY BOO: "No. Why enforce bullying? It’s everyone’s own personal right as to whether they want the vaccination or not. Leave them alone just like they are leaving us alone."

IAN GOMERSALL: "No, you can’t bully people into having the jab I have had mine that was my choice and if they choose not to have it it’s their business."

ELI HOUSE: "No. People must be allowed to have their freedoms and make their own choices. I think it's fine to encourage people to get vaccinated as long as they have the final decision."

RAY MARSHALL: "No they shouldn't be forced to have the vaccine but if they don't have it they can't moan if they are refused entry to pubs, night clubs and venues."

VIC K NIBB: "They should be made to have it - no vaccination then they get no pay."

ASIYA KARIM: "Basically you're forcing it cause without having it they've put so much restrictions on things. You can't travel. Work.

"So many other things will be 'if you're not vaccinated you won't be able to do it'. So where is the freedom really? If we have a negative result that should be enough."

STEVE HILL: "Yes. There’s five million of them. And they are pushing the NHS over a cliff edge, which stops them treating the rest of us for non-Covid cases which are piling up.

"It is selfish and utterly irresponsible."

KAREN KAZ MUSILOVÁ: "Nope. I'm double-jabbed, but I respect the right of others to refuse it. As long as they aren't coughing in my face, it's up to them.

"The more you try to force it, the more people will resist. As is their right."

KIMBERLEY HERMON: "The vaccination doesn't stop you from getting it or spreading it. It just stops you from getting it as bad as it would without having it.

"Not sure why people who refuse to have it done, should get told off. If they want to risk having worse symptoms than us then it's their choice. Doesn't effect anyone else apart from them."

HANNAH BARR: "Maybe if it wasn’t so forced people would come forward willingly after doing there own research. But why do the vaccinated care so much?"
