A thief banned from having any bike that he hadn’t registered with police was caught in the saddle, a court heard.

Antonio Marraffa, 26, was given a 10 week suspended sentence in July for stealing bikes. A criminal behaviour order imposed by the magistrates at the hearing prevented him from having any bike that wasn’t registered with Thames Valley Police.

On Saturday, Oxford Magistrates’ Court heard police had spotted him on Between Towns Road, Oxford, on September 9. Marraffa tried to cycle off.

Appearing before the court wearing a grey tracksuit, Marraffa, of Iffley Road, Oxford, pleaded guilty to breaching a criminal behaviour order. He also admitted that put him in breach of his 10 week suspended sentence.

He yawned then stretched out his arms as he was told he’d be remanded in custody until Tuesday, September 14, when the justices will hear about his progress with addiction service Turning Point and decide whether the suspended sentence should be activated.

Shane Hauschild represented the Crown Prosecution Service at the short hearing on Saturday morning. Will Alexander appeared for Marraffa.
