UP to 13 more cases of the Indian variant of coronavirus have been detected in Oxfordshire, new data from the Government reveals.

This comes as three patients were admitted to hospitals in the county with Covid-19, one of which is now on ventilation.

Official figures show that as of 4pm on Friday, a total of 36 new coronavirus cases were registered in Oxfordshire– nearly triple the number recorded on Thursday.

These are the daily cases separated by local authorities:

Oxford – 8

South Oxfordshire – 8

Cherwell – 4

West Oxfordshire – 3

Vale of White Horse – 13

The total number of coronavirus cases since the pandemic started are:

Oxford – 9,627

Oxfordshire – 34,129

UK – 127,768

The UK has recorded a further ten Covid-related deaths and 4,182 new cases with 134 patients admitted to hospital, Public Health England confirmed.

The health body recently changed the way it records the figures.

Cases identified through a positive lateral flow test – those which can deliver results within half an hour – will no longer be counted if the person then takes a PCR test, which is sent to a lab to be checked, and receives a negative result within three days.

The latest data shows that more than 73.8 per cent of the population has received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, while nearly 46.5 per cent have received their second.
