AN INTREPID seven-year-old boy is climbing a mountain in memory of his great grandmother.

Oliver Scott, from Bicester, will attempt to climb the equivalent height of Scafell Pike next Monday at Clip n Climb climbing centre in the town, to help raise money for Sobell House Hospice, which cared for his great gran.

Sobell House, based at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford, supports individuals with terminal illnesses.

The young boy hopes to complete the challenge within three and half hours.

In total he will climb 140 walls to 'reach the top of the mountain'.

Keely Weir, managing director of Clip n Climb Bicester, said: “When Oliver told me that our new adult’s Challenge Hour, where teams of six try to complete the height of Ben Nevis in 45 minutes, had inspired him to create his own challenge I was really pleased.

"He then told me he planned to complete the height of Scafell Pike in one day.

"Having completed the adult challenge myself, I was impressed."

Oliver will complete his challenge on May 31.

Lorraine Pink, director of fundraising and communications for Sobell House, said: “Oliver is a superstar and an inspiration.

"We are so grateful to him for doing this amazing challenge to raise money for Sobell House and helping us to continue to be there for families when they need us.

"We’re all wishing him the best of luck for Monday 31st May."
