A RETRO caravan is a picturesque part of a new riverside bar opening in Oxford on Saturday.

Charlie Gee, 24, has created The Medley around a reconditioned caravan in a stunning setting on his parents’ land at Medley Manor Farm in Binsey - right next to the famous Rainbow Bridge.

He and his friend Otto Figueiredo, 24, have been hands-on creating the new beer garden on a disused part of the farm which is neatly fenced and has been landscaped with new seating and decking.

They can welcome up to 100 people at socially distanced tables and will be open from 11am to 11pm from May to September.

The drinks menu will include wine, beer, cider and champagne, as well as tea, coffee and soft drinks.

Mr Gee and Mr Figueiredo met at Cherwell School and have worked together in pubs and bars around Oxford for many years.

Mr Gee said: “The caravan is lovely, it’s got a vintage look. To be honest when we got it it was so worn out we took it apart and started again.”

The Gee family acquired Medley Manor Farm in 1958 and Charles Gee Snr and his wife Barbara started pick your own in 1980, mainly selling strawberries.

Charlie expanded the business to include more fruits and vegetables while his wife, Rachel, has opened a cafe on the site that is open in June and July.
