The Bodleian Library is the main research library of the University of Oxford, and it is one of the city’s most famous architectural landmarks.

It is one of Europe’s oldest libraries and it is Britain’s second largest library after the British Library.

Holding more than 13 million printed items it is no surprise that it is frequently visited by flocks of tourists from across the world.

Visitors of the magnificent library have left their opinions of their visit on Google.

From visitors’ views on the gift shop to the Harry Potter fans recommendations, here are some of the comments left by visitors of the library on Google Reviews.

A Spectacular Place

The library received a full five stars from one tourist who had nothing but positivity to share.

The pleased tourist said: “This library is one of the most incredible feats of human dedication I have ever seen. Truly a wonder how so many books from over 1000 years ago, up until present day, are stored in this spectacular place. Definitely worth visiting.”

A Good Gift Shop

One tourist visited the magnificent library and shared beautiful pictures of the building giving it four stars on Google.

However, the visitor left a review commenting on the “wonderful” gift shop. The tourist also said: “Sad they charge to see the inside of the library.”

Tourists’ Tips

Many tourists recommend the guided tour to get the most out of the trip to the library.

One reviewer said: “Make sure you look up the times of the tours, because you can’t just look around the library without a guided tour, and the tours only run at certain times. Best to stop by in the morning, get your tour time, then come back. Lovely building, worth a visit if in Oxford.”

Lost Hat

One disappointed tourist only left a two-star review after losing their hat, but said they still enjoyed the tour.

The visitor said: “The tour was really nice. But I either lost my hat or someone took it because you should leave your clothes in the box before going in. The staff were not helpful at all. Really rude lady.”

Top Photography Tips

One visitor has given the library five stars on Google for its brilliant views and photography opportunities.

The reviewer said: “The main library of University of Oxford located in the centre of the campus. This unique building is often used by visitors for taking a photo outside the library.”

Great For Harry Potter Fans

The library was famously used in the filming of Harry Potter, specifically the gothic vaulted ceiling of the Divinity School which was used as Hogwarts Infirmary in Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone.

One tourist left a positive review and said: “Great tour, magical place, very charming. It is definitely worth-visiting, especially for Harry Potter fans. During the day you can see students learning there, in the late evening it’s dark, quiet, and empty which makes this experience quite different.”
