CARE home residents will be tuning in to live virtual tours and interactive talks from one of Oxfordshire’s biggest tourist destinations this Christmas.

Blenheim Palace has joined up with Barchester Healthcare to deliver the tours.

Barchester runs more than 240 homes across the UK, caring for around 12,000 people.

The talks will led by the palace’s social historian Antonia Keaney, who will be joined by TV historian Dan Snow and Hi-de-Hi! actress Ruth Madoc.

Antonia said: “I was delighted to get involved, we have broadcast a number of livestreamed events throughout lockdown for people and they’ve proved really popular.

“It has been a tough year for all of us, but my heart really goes out to everyone involved with the care industry and the prospect of being able to offer a little bit of festive cheer was too good to miss.

“We’re so pleased both Dan and Ruth have agreed to join me on two of the virtual tours and we’re hoping to have some more special guests and some other surprises to reveal soon.”

Lucy Tomlinson, resident experience manager at Barchester, added: “We have been using technology to keep residents connected with their loved ones as well as offer virtual events and activities during this time.

“We are excited to work with Blenheim Palace on a project like this to bring fantastic experiences into our homes for all to enjoy this Christmas.”

Barchester residents will also be taking part in virtual events from the English National Ballet, the British Army, a tour of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and a performance of A Christmas Carol by The Old Vic in London.
