A MAN who raped and sexually abused a young child has been found guilty on all counts.

Neale Holmes had denied any wrong-doing and a jury heard that he told police his alleged victim 'may have had a bad dream.'

Prosecutors maintained that the 50-year-old of Wigod Way, Wallingford, abused the child - who cannot be named for legal reasons - while she was aged under 13 in the early 2000s.

He went to trial at Oxford Crown Court earlier this week.

During the case the jury saw a recorded interview that the victim gave to police about the incident.

In that interview she said Holmes sexually abused her a number of times on a single night.

She said that he first raped her orally before taking her to another room.

There, she said he sexually assaulted her by touching and also made her perform a sex act on him.

Today, the jury found him unanimously guilty of three counts - one of rape, one of sexual assault and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Presiding Judge Maria Lamb adjourned the case for sentencing, which will take place at the same court on November 20.

He was remanded in custody in the meantime.
