A DRINK driver has admitted causing death by dangerous driving after a horror crash in Abingdon.

A court judge warned Ryan Owen-Brewerton to expect a 'substantial custodial sentence' for causing the crash.

The 20-year-old of Appleford Drive, Abingdon, appeared at Oxford Crown Court today.

He pleaded guilty to one offence of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of driving above the alcohol limit.

The crash happened on the night of July 7 this year in Abingdon leading to the death of victim Kacper Grzeszek.

Driver Owen-Brewerton was in a BMW 1 series when his 'dangerous driving' caused a crash which killed his victim while on Ock Street, Abingdon.

He also admitted driving above the alcohol limit, having 90mcg of alcohol in 100m of breath.

There were sighs of relief from the victim's family at court after the guilty pleas were entered.

Prosecutors said at the hearing that collision investigators were continuing their investigations into speed calculations and asked that the sentencing be adjourned.

Alan Blake, on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service, said the offence was in the 'highest category' for the crime.

Alexandra Bull, defending, said that her client 'fully accepts' that he faces a 'lengthy custodial sentence' and added that he was still a young man who had indicated his guilty plea at the earliest opportunity at court.

Deciding whether to release Owen-Brewerton on bail or not presiding Judge Maria Lamb said because of the 'gravity of this matter he must be remanded in custody.'

She adjourned the case for further investigations and for a pre-sentence report.

Before he was taken away from the dock she warned a 'substantial custodial sentence' had been indicated by the court.

Owen-Brewerton was remanded in custody and will provisionally appear again for sentencing at the same court on October 7.
