CLIMATE activists will lie on floor pretending to be dead at the Westgate Centre this week.

Campaigners from Extinction Rebellion will gather at Oxford's city centre on Friday and Saturday to highlight and denounce the 'ecocidal effects' of the clothing and textiles industry.

The action will begin on Friday morning and end on Saturday evening, starting at 11am each day, with a range of talks and educational activities.

The group will also stage a 'die-in' - a form of protest in which participants simulate being dead.

One 17-year-old activist Hana explained why they chose the shopping centre for the rally.

She said: "Westgate shopping centre epitomises the priority of profit over people and the planet.

"As young people facing climate and ecological breakdown in the near future, we understand this attitude cannot continue any longer."

The group added that everyone attending must wear face-coverings, and physically distance.

Hand sanitiser will be provided, and the campaigners will practice a 'touch it, take it' policy with any freebies and swapped clothes.
