FUNNEL clouds that onlookers believe could have been a tornado were photographed and filmed over an Oxfordshire village.

The phenomenon was filmed by people in the village of Challow, a mile away from Wantage.

One passer-by Fiona Stovold, who was walking her dog at the time, commented in the Wantage & Grove community page on Facebook: "I saw the beginning of it.

"I was walking the dog at the time and I realised that was not the best decision I made today.

"I got a little damp, shall we say."

The event was also captured by driver Julie O'Hanlon who was travelling with her daughter when they were both stunned by the sight.

Facebook user Jim Izzard commented that the 'tornado' was right over his house in Letcombe Bassett near Wantage.

Residents speculated whether this was a tornado or a water spout, however, most were just amazed by the uncommon event.

Challlow villager Jeff Tarbitten also took to social media to share photos of yesterday's stormy weather.

More tornado-like water spouts were seen over the Bristol Channel and above Brecon mountains in Wales on Sunday.

According to the Met Office around 30 tornadoes a year are reported in the UK.

These are typically small and short-lived, but can cause structural damage if they pass over built-up areas.

Another yellow weather warning was put in place for most of the UK yesterday.

The Met Office warned that thunderstorms will continue and that people should expect heavy rain, flash flooding, lightning and hail.
