A HMP Bullingdon inmate caught with a mobile phone at prison while he was transferring inside has been handed more time behind bars.

Tobi Omisore didn't attend his sentencing hearing at Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old of HMP Bullingdon had, however, admitted one count of having a mobile phone while in prison.

Outlining the case prosecutor Cathy Olliver said that prison officers discovered the phone in his possession at the prison near Bicester on November 9.

Omisore had transferred from Woodhill prison, Milton Keynes to HMP Bullingdon when he was caught with the phone.

It was found hidden in a jar by an x-ray machine at the prison.

Analysing the device they saw that a series of telephone calls had been made to his family and to his solicitor.

Those calls were all part of his 'Pin list' - recognised numbers that he is authorised to contact using prison telephones.

His defence barrister did not offer full mitigation as Omisore didn't attend the hearing as he said to prison staff he was feeling unwell.

Judge Ian Pringle QC said: "For the last two or three years HMP Bullingdon has seen various cases of mobile phones in prison.

"It is as you are probably aware a real plague on their system.

"Prisoners must understand that if they have mobile phones in their possession at prison it is illegal.

"It will be given an immediate custodial sentence."

Omisore, already a serving prisoner, was handed a further six months in prison for the single offence.

That jail term will run consecutive to his current term and he must pay a victim surcharge.

Omisore was jailed for a total of seven years in March last year at Aylesbury Crown Court.
