MEMBERS of the public are being asked to help out with a community boat building project.

The Jericho Living Heritage Trust is bringing a historic Oxford narrowboat called Kilsby back to life and re-purposing her to work as a theatre space and a community trip boat.

On Saturday and Sunday the trust will be running its first Kilsby community workshop at The Boatyard in Yarnton.

With the help of the team from Tooley’s boatyard in Banbury a group of community volunteers will be working on Kilsby to clear her and make her watertight - the boat can’t move until this work has been completed.

At Tooley’s she will be assessed for works which will enable the trust to put together a detailed restoration plan.

The workshop will take place at the yard in Yarnton and there will be parking on site.

Volunteers are needed on Saturday from 10am to 1pm and from 1pm to 4pm, and on Sunday from 10am to 1pm and from 1pm to 4pm.

A spokesman for the trust said: “Volunteers will be involved in removing the cabin, stripping out old woodwork, and loading the skips. No previous experience is necessary but if people do have any relevant skills they are asked to mention them.

Volunteers should wear boots, not trainers and warm clothes.
