OXFORD University’s call for a workplace parking levy to be imposed across the city has prompted lively debate.
The city and county council are proposing a series of congestion-busting measures in their Connecting Oxford report.
One proposal is a workplace parking levy in the city’s ‘Eastern arc’ but the university said it should be citywide.

Other proposals being considered include a series of additional bus gates.
The university said it strongly supported the Connecting Oxford proposals, condemning the city’s transport network as ‘wholly inadequate’.
‘Der Biffer’ told oxfordmail.co.uk: “At last, a sensible response from the university. Now all that’s needed is for the individual colleges to come on board but I seriously doubt this will happen.
"I work at one of the larger ones, and the ‘reasons’ why staff have to drive (mostly from within Oxford) would make you laugh, if the situation were not so serious.”

RSM added: “When I was a boy certain cars carried a small green light on the front and I think they were students.
"It would be interesting to do that again and see what effect students have on the car problem.”

There is a camera-enforced bus gate in High Street and as part of the proposals bus gates could be created in other locations, including Worcester Street and Marston Ferry Road.
