40 firefighters battled flames in a workshop full of exploding cylinders last night.

Eight different fire crews from Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire rushed to Kirtlington Road in Chesterton (near Bicester) last night, to reports of a building on fire.

The flames had taken over a large farm building, that was being used as a workshop.

The force used seven hose lines to fight the fire and to stop it spreading to the other buildings nearby.

But, because the building was so hot cylinders in the workshop were exploding at the same time.

Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that nobody was injured.

Teams are still thought to be on the site this morning, and will work throughout the day to dampen down the fire.

They will be joined by specialist investigators who will work alongside the police to get the bottom of the cause.

The station manager at Kidlington Darran Hookway said: "Thanks to quick actions of a nearby resident who called 999, we were able to arrive on scene to start tackling the blaze and stop it spreading to nearby buildings.

"We'd like to remind everyone that if they discover an incident the quicker you make the call and the more information such as what and where it is, can save lives and property."
