A CASH machine has been torn from the wall of a Co-op in Didcot.

The branch on the Ladygrove estate is cordoned off by police this morning after the latest in a slew of ATM ram-raids in the county.

Pictures of the destruction show a gaping hole where the cash point was and a pile of rubble.

A staff member at the shop, at the Ladygrove Local Centre in Mersey Way, confirmed it was closed but was unable to give further details about what had happened.

One man who passed the scene, who asked not to be named, said: "I drove past and saw police cars and police tape, and a big hole in the wall.

"I'm pretty sure it was where the cash point was."

He said he could not see any machinery or diggers, which is what was used when the Kingston Bagpuize Co-Op was targeted in March.

A spokesperson for The Midcounties Co-operative said: "An incident took place at the Ladygrove Didcot store on Friday, April 3.

"We are assisting the police with their investigations."

The spokesperson confirmed the store is currently closed but plans to reopen later this afternoon.

Police have not yet confirmed if they are linking the theft to any previous raids.
