AN 18-year-old who overturned a car in a residential street in Hereford has been banned from driving for 16 months.

Liam Husbands of Wentworth Road, Holmer pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Hereford Magistrates Court last Thursday.

The court heard he had been at his friend's home drinking alcohol on the evening of April 18, when just after midnight he left with three of his friends to go into Hereford.

Lesley Ashton, prosecuting, said Husbands was driving in Whittern Way when he came around a right-hand bend and collided with the rear of a parked car, causing his vehicle to overturn.

The occupants all got out of the car and when police arrived Husbands identified himself and said he had swerved to avoid a cat.

He was breathalysed and had 57mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath- the legal limit is 35mg.

Husbands had no previous convictions.

George Cousins, defending, said Husbands was very remorseful and he went on a community website for Whittern Way the next day and apologised to residents.

Mr Cousins said Husbands received positive feedback for doing so.

He was banned from driving for 16 months, with a reduction of four months if he takes a drink-drive rehabilitation course.

He was fined £160, ordered to pay prosecution costs of £85, a victim surcharge of £20 and a criminal courts charge of £150.
