Dorset Echo: DOUBTFUL: Mark Jermyn

MAGPIES 0 STAINES TOWN 4

CAPTAIN Mark Jermyn was sent off as a desperately poor Magpies finished a clear second best at the Avenue today.

Jermyn’s opposite number David Wheeler ran the show for Staines and scored one of his side’s four goals while the hosts never looked like finding the net.

The three points gives Staines a huge boost in their bid to avoid the drop from Blue Square Bet South and leaves the county town club’s outside chances of the play-offs in tatters.

Jason Matthews was back between the sticks for the hosts in their only change to the side that started the win over Farnborough in midweek.

Arran Pugh returned from suspension but had to settle for a place on the bench with Steve Walker keeping the number five shirt following his goal scoring debut on Tuesday.

Walker had probably the home side’s best chance in the first half when, unmarked eight yards out, he headed wide from Dorchester’s only corner of the first 45 minutes.

Kieffer Moore had a few attempts at goal but none troubled Staines keeper Jack Turner and the striker was kept quiet for large parts of the game by Jerel Ifil who stuck to him like a limpet.

Staines played some half-decent football and took the lead on 34 minutes when Tyrone Marsh, with the aid of a slight deflection, curled a free kick past Matthews after he had been brought down by Jermyn (pictured above).

Jermyn was booked for the foul and 10 minutes after Marsh made it 1-0, Staines skipper Wheeler doubled his side’s lead, picking the ball up midway in the Magpies’ half before surging past Neil Martin and Walker and slotting into the corner.

Just two minutes after the restart, with Pugh on for Bell, Staines all but wrap up the points as Wheeler was allowed to run down the Magpies’ right and when he slipped the ball through to Louis-Rae Beadle the striker was left in bags of space to curl past Matthews.

On 56 minutes Dorchester’s afternoon took another turn for the worse when Ben Watson, who had replaced the injured Tom Nichols in the first half, left the field himself with Sam Malsom the substitute for the substitute.

Then, just after the hour mark, a slip by Pugh let in Wheeler on the right and when he was brought down by Jermyn referee Adrian Quelch had little option but to issue a second caution.

Beadle nearly got his second when he headed a corner against the bar but in the last minute of normal time substitute Dan Brown slotted past Matthews at the second attempt.
