TORFAEN Training is running a ‘preparing for motherhood’ programme for prenatal young mums aged 16 to 18.

Participants receive training, coaching and information on a variety of every day issues they may be facing, including family links, pregnancy and healthy living tips, preparing homemade baby food recipes, the benefits system, housing advice, budgeting skills, drug and alcohol awareness during pregnancy, contraception, sexual health, mental health, postnatal depression, employability skills, basic skills, baby first aid, and returning to work, training and education.

Mum Keeley Emanuel said: “It’s been brilliant and I’ve learned a lot. We’ve been looking after the reality babies.”

Another mum Sinead Simmons added: “It’s given us the opportunity to meet similar people and talk to them.”

The programme runs for 21 hours per week for 12 weeks, with the learner receiving a training allowance of £30 a week.
